I love going to people’s homes for sessions. Not only does it allow young ones to relax as well as working with the often rainy Seattle weather, but the end results can be even more meaningful. They document not only what you looked like, but where you lived. I like to think these two little ones will someday look back at the photos from this session and remember what the house they lived in when they tiny looked like, how Big Sister always had a “baby” in her arms after Baby Brother came along, and how Mama and Grandma worked countless hours to create so many beautiful blankets for the nursery.

Once again, it’s been way too long since I posted here. I’ve been busy working on a number of projects, but hope to spend the next few weeks getting at least a few sessions up on the blog as well. I had the opportunity to spend an afternoon exploring the park with this adorable family of three. Their little one was quiet, inquisitive, and oh so adorable. She seemed to have a great time crawling all over the boardwalks and even tolerated being sat down in the grass occasionally. I just managed to get to take these before these three moved out of state, and hopefully they will soon be settled into their new surroundings. It’s getting to be that time of year so if you are thinking of getting family portraits taken for the holidays, it’s time to get your session scheduled.

These days happiness often comes in an adorable, little, four year old package. This is the baby of our family, and she is just this happy, little girl. She even wakes up smiling. She sings, dances and cartwheels her way through her days. She loves to explore the outdoors. She loves to listen to music. She loves to snuggle Mama. She has just about the best sense of comic timing of any four year old I’ve ever met. She has brought more laughter and joy into our family than we ever could have anticipated. And since, to me, family is what happiness is all about . . . this is the way I view happiness. <3

Here’s the second installment of “The Way I View . . .” project that I’m participating in with some incredible photographers from CMPro. In the month of February we concentrated on the way we view “sweetness and love” so I’m sure it’s no surprise that you will be seeing my kids again. I am very blessed to have three amazing girls who all love each other very much. Sure, they sometimes fight like almost all siblings do, but overall they are each other’s best friends. I hope it stays that way for life. My oldest and youngest are nearly seven years apart in age, but they share this amazing bond. I took them out one day to document that, and, to me, these scream sweetness and love. <3

What a beautiful family! They were so sweet with their adorable, 2-month old baby boy. The weather was lovely, and I really enjoyed meeting them. On the day we met, their little guy was sticking out his tongue every time he smiled. They said he had just started doing that and have since informed me that he has already stopped, so I’m especially glad that I got to document brief moment in time for them. Here are just a few of their first professional family portraits as a family of three.

As a side note, I’m also putting out a casting call for families. I have some great ideas of things I want to do with families and with the unseasonably dry weather seems like now is as good of time as any to do them. If your family would like to be involved please contact me for more details.

Welcome back to my blog. It has been way too long since I updated it. For 2012, I have teamed up with a group of fabulous CMPros to share with you and with each other how we view things. Each month this year we will take pictures that speak to the month’s theme and then post them on our blog on the 2nd of the following month. The theme for January was “The Way I View New Beginnings.”

At first I was bummed that this theme was falling in January because my mind immediately went to flower blossoms and tree buds and all the new beginnings that come with spring. Then, a much bigger than usual snow storm hit the area and the plant theme seemed even further away. My mind turned to newborn babies, toddler new walkers, first day of schoolers, etc., but none of those seemed quite right. It wasn’t until I was driving my middle child to gymnastics one day that I knew what I wanted to photograph for this challenge. It was her, and while she’s not at a traditional milestone time right now, this is still just her new beginning. She is very much like the buds on the trees that will be in full force in a month or two. She has such a good heart and is an incredibly creative and divergent thinker, that I have no doubts that some day she will do something great! This day though we had just passed a homeless person holding a sign asking for money and food. She says to me “Mama, I wish we could make it so there were no homeless people” and then we went on to think about what she might be able to do about it. I hope her compassion continues to grow along with her ability to really make changes in her world. For now, I will just enjoy her new beginning.
